Why Trust This Itinerary
We Actually Did This Trip. Here’s Every Dollar.
Most 6-day NYC itineraries are written from a desk. This one was walked, ridden, climbed, and paid for — and we kept every receipt.
Two people. Six days. Emirates flights from Dubai, a Hilton in Midtown Manhattan, a 5-day Go City Pass, and 25+ attractions from the Statue of Liberty to the Edge. Total cost: ~$4,987 for two people, flights included. That’s roughly $2,493 per person for the full New York experience.
Below is the complete day-wise plan, the full budget by category, the pass strategy that unlocked ~$1,000 of attractions, and the subway hack that capped our transit spend at $36 per person.
💡 The Three Decisions That Made This Trip Cheap
1) A 5-day Go City Pass ($322.88/person) that covered ~$1,000+ of attractions. 2) One OMNY card per person, tapped all week — NYC caps transit at 12 paid rides weekly, then everything’s free. 3) Midtown hotel — pricier per night, but it eliminated taxis and put half the itinerary within walking distance.

🎟️ The Pass Strategy
How One Pass Unlocked ~$1,000 of Attractions
The Go City New York 5-Day All-Inclusive Pass cost $322.88 per person ($645.76 for two). Across Days 1–5, it covered 14 paid attractions with a combined gate value of roughly $1,000+ for two people.
- Day 1: Top of the Rock + Radio City Tour + Rockefeller Tour
- Day 2: 9/11 Museum (~$25/pp) + One World Observatory (~$40/pp) + Statue of Liberty ferry (~$25/pp) → ~$141 saved
- Day 3: Museum of Broadway (~$43) + RiseNY (~$44) + Edge (~$42) + bike rental (~$25) → ~$308 saved
- Day 4: Rest day for the pass — all attractions were free anyway
- Day 5: Big Bus (~$65) + MSG Tour (~$46) + High Line tour (~$39) + Vessel (~$10) → ~$320 saved
💡 Pass Rules That Matter
Stack attractions geographically (same street, same neighbourhood, same day). Pre-book anything timed — Top of the Rock sunset, 9/11 Museum, Edge, Vessel. And a pass rest-day is fine — NYC has enough free icons to fill a day without touching it.
🚇 The Transit Strategy
Our Entire Week of NYC Transport Cost $75 for Two
The OMNY Weekly Cap: NYC caps public transit at 12 paid rides ($36) per card per week (Mon–Sun) — subway and local buses combined. After 12 taps, every ride is free until the week resets. One card per person, tap the same card every time, and your worst-case transit budget is $36/person/week.
🚐 Airport Transfers
- Uber Shuttle, JFK ↔ Midtown
- $48 each way for 2 people
- vs $80–100+ for regular Uber with surge
- Book in the app before you clear customs
🚇 In the City
- OMNY contactless — tap your phone or card
- $3 per ride, capped at 12 paid rides/week
- Walk the compact zones: Lower Manhattan, Midtown core
- Big Bus (pass-covered) doubles as free transport on Day 5
🏨 Stay & Logistics
Where to Stay and How It All Connects
🏨 Our Choice: Hilton, Midtown
- $1,821.77 for 6 nights, 2 people, taxes in ($303.63/night)
- Walking distance to Rockefeller, Times Square, Grand Central
- Cuts taxi spend to zero for half the itinerary
- Check Hilton points and advance rates before booking
📱 Before You Fly
- eSIM: $8 for 15 days unlimited data — buy before departure
- Pre-book timed entries: Top of the Rock, 9/11 Museum, Edge, Vessel, Liberty ferry
- Download: OMNY wallet, Go City app, Big Bus app
- Best seasons: April–June and September–November
🍽️ Where to Eat
Eating Well in NYC Without the $200 Days
Our food averaged ~$81/day for two across six days — in a city where a careless approach can double that. The pattern: modest breakfast, a proper sit-down lunch, and a budget-friendly dinner. Here’s exactly where we ate and what worked.
☕ Breakfast & Coffee
- Black Seed Bagels — the real NYC bagel, ~$10–15 each
- Subway or a deli for fast, cheap mornings ($17 for 2)
- Louis Vuitton Café — a $14 coffee flex, once, for the story
- Skip $6+ hotel-lobby lattes; grab a corner-cart coffee
🍛 Lunch & Dinner
- Madras Dosa Co (30 Rock) — dosa + samosa, ~$22 for 2
- Kailash Parbat — reliable Indian veg, our repeat winner
- Crazy Pizza / NYC slice joints — dinner for 2 under $30
- Domino’s on tired nights — $23 beats a $70 tourist trap
💡 Eating Rule · Walk One Block
The worst-value meals in New York are the ones closest to the landmarks. Walk a single block in any direction and prices drop while quality rises. Save the splurge for one planned dinner, keep breakfast and lunch cheap and functional, and never buy food on a ferry or observation deck — captive-audience pricing is brutal.
🎟️ How to Book Activities
The Booking Playbook: Pass, Timing & Discounts
Getting the booking right is where most of the savings live. Two things drove our entire attraction budget: a Go City pass for bundled entry, and booking timed slots early so we never paid premium walk-up rates.
Step 1 · Get a Go City Pass
The Go City New York All-Inclusive Pass covered 14 attractions across 5 days for $322.88 per person — roughly $1,000+ of gate value for two. Break-even is about two paid attractions a day, and we averaged nearly three. Match the pass length to how many attraction-heavy days you’re planning.
Step 2 · Pre-Book Anything Timed
Top of the Rock at sunset, the 9/11 Museum, the Edge, the Vessel and the Statue of Liberty ferry all run on timed entry that sells out days ahead. Reserve these the moment your dates are fixed — the pass covers the cost, but the slot is separate.
Step 3 · Stack by Geography
Group pass attractions that sit near each other on the same day — the Museum of Broadway and RiseNY literally share West 45th Street. Less transit, more attractions, better value from every pass day.

🧠 Smart vs Tourist
The Master List: 6 Days of Smart Moves
🚫 Tourist Move
- Regular Uber from JFK at surge pricing ($100+)
- Pay every attraction at the gate — ~$1,000+ for this itinerary
- New transit card every few rides — the cap never kicks in
- Eat at whatever restaurant is closest to each landmark
- Big Bus on Day 1, before you know what you’re looking at
- Book a hotel far out to “save money,” then spend it on taxis
- Pay to climb the Vessel separately after buying a pass
✅ Smart Move
- Uber Shuttle both ways — $96 total for 2, booked in-app
- 5-day Go City Pass at $322.88/pp — covered 14 attractions
- Same OMNY card all week — transit capped at $36/person
- Research 2–3 food spots per zone; repeat the winners
- Big Bus on the final pass day — highlight reel plus free transport
- Midtown base — walk to half the itinerary, subway the rest
- Watch a free Vessel concert one day, climb it on the pass the next
💡 Money-Saving Masterlist
Every Hack From the Trip, In One Place
- Uber Shuttle, not Uber — $48 vs $80–100+ each way from JFK for two people
- Go City 5-Day Pass — break-even is roughly 2 attractions/day; we averaged nearly 3
- OMNY weekly cap — 12 paid rides then free; our whole week of city transit cost $75 for two
- Stack attractions by geography — West 45th St alone holds two pass attractions side by side
- Free NYC is elite NYC — Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central, Times Square, Central Park, Flatiron, Charging Bull, Wall Street, the 9/11 pools and the Oculus cost nothing
- Eat before ferries and observation decks — captive-audience food pricing is real
- SoHo at breakfast, chains at lunch, sit-downs where they earn it — food averaged ~$81/day for two
- Free live music — Hudson Yards, Bryant Park and SummerStage calendars are worth checking
- eSIM before departure — $8 for 15 days vs airport kiosk rates
- Book timed entries the moment your dates are fixed — sunset and weekend slots go first
⚠️ Common Mistakes
What Ruins a 6-Day NYC Trip
⚠️
Zigzagging across ManhattanGroup each day by neighbourhood. Downtown day, Midtown day, park day. Transit time is trip time you never get back.
⚠️
Buying attraction tickets one by oneThis itinerary’s gate prices total ~$1,000+ for two. The pass cost $645.76. That’s a return flight’s worth of difference.
⚠️
Not pre-booking timed entriesTop of the Rock at sunset, the 9/11 Museum, the Edge — the good slots sell out days ahead, pass or no pass.
⚠️
Underestimating walking distancesManhattan’s grid lies to you. Ten blocks is 15 minutes. Six days of it is a marathon — bring real shoes.
⚠️
Leaving the airport transfer to chanceMidtown to JFK can take 90 minutes in traffic. Book the shuttle the night before and leave a 3-hour buffer.
⚠️
Blowing the food budget on location, not qualityThe worst meals in NYC are the ones closest to the landmarks. Walk one block. Every time.
