45 minutes over Marjan Island, the UAE’s first casino and the RAK coast. Here’s what really happens, what it costs, and how to do it smarter.
I expected a joyride. I got a flying lesson.
There’s exactly one airstrip in the UAE built for recreational flying. It sits in Ras Al Khaimah, about an hour from Dubai.
I booked the 45-minute scenic microlight flight. Ten minutes in, the pilot said: “Okay, you try.”
๐ I flew it on 17 October 2026. Everything here comes from that flight. No brochure fluff.
You fly right over Wynn Al Marjan Island. A 70-storey tower. Opening September 2027. You see the UAE’s first casino before anyone checks in.
It’s normal light-aviation risk. The club is GCAA-approved, there’s a safety briefing, and an experienced pilot handles takeoff and landing.
None. I had zero. The pilot teaches you in the air.
It’s at the pilot’s discretion and depends on conditions. Ask during the briefing for the best chance.
Mine was a fully enclosed two-seater with dual controls. The club also flies other types, so confirm when booking.
Around 100 kg, and you sign a health declaration. Confirm the exact limit for your aircraft.
Club rates run AED 500 (20 min) to AED 1,000 (60 min). The 45-minute flight is AED 875. Confirm when booking.
45 minutes. Shorter flights cost more per minute and end before your lesson really starts.
Below about 1,400 ft, at roughly 60 knots (~110 km/h). Low and slow is why the views are so good.
Usually Marjan Island, the coast, mangroves and the Wynn site. The desert loop adds dunes and the ghost town. Wind decides.
Not in the same plane. Each aircraft seats you and the pilot. Book two planes in the same slot.
Yes. Use a lanyard and ask before mounting anything.
Wind or poor visibility can delay or cancel flights. GetYourGuide bookings usually allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Listed hours are Wednesday to Monday, 8 AMโ6 PM. Closed Tuesdays.
It varies. Confirm with the club when booking, especially for teens.
Most people don’t. Eat light, look at the horizon, and tell your pilot if you feel off.
Dark clothes, closed shoes and sunglasses. Dark tops cut window reflections in photos.
45 minutes felt like 15. Coast from above. A casino that doesn’t exist yet. Real radio. And I flew a plane. Go at sunset, book 45+, and ask for the desert loop.
