Paris is not expensive. Unplanned Paris is expensive.

I’ve done this city the wrong way — random queues, €8 coffees, wrong metro tickets.
Then I did it properly. This is that version.

This 5-day Paris itinerary is built for first-timers, couples and budget-aware travellers flying in from the UAE.
You get the icons, the Instagram shots and the local corners — without burning cash.

⚠️ What changed in 2026 (older blogs are wrong)
  • ✔ Louvre is now €32 for non-EEA visitors (was €22). UAE residents pay the higher rate.
  • ✔ Versailles, Sainte-Chapelle and other national sites now charge non-EEA visitors more.
  • ✔ One metro ticket (€2.55) now covers all zones — Disneyland and Versailles included. Airports excluded.
  • ✔ Paper tickets are gone. You can’t tap a bank card at metro gates — but buses now take tap-and-pay.
  • ✔ Roissybus stopped running in February 2026. Orlybus ended in 2025.
  • ✔ From 29 September 2026, Eiffel Tower stair tickets must be booked in advance.

What Is the Best Time to Visit Paris?

Short answer: late April to June, or September to mid-October.
Mild weather, long days, fewer queues than summer.

🌸 Spring (Apr–Jun) ✔ Best
16–23°C. Gardens in bloom. Sunset after 9pm in June.
Book hotels early for May.
☀️ Summer (Jul–Aug)
25–30°C+, heatwaves possible. Peak crowds and prices.
Many locals leave in August.
🍂 Autumn (Sep–Oct) ✔ Best
15–21°C. Golden light, café terraces still open.
My personal favourite.
❄️ Winter (Nov–Mar)
3–10°C. Cheapest hotels. Christmas lights in December.
Free first-Sunday entries at many monuments.
💡 Insider Hack for UAE travellers
  • Escape the Gulf heat in September — Paris is perfect, summer prices drop.
  • Avoid big trade-fair and fashion weeks (late Feb/Mar, late Sep/Oct) — hotel rates spike.
  • UAE school holidays push Dubai–Paris fares up. Fly a week either side.

Day 1 — Arrival + Eiffel Tower Evening (Best Eiffel Tower Photo Spots) + Tap to read full day

Land, drop bags, eat pastry, then chase the Iron Lady from every angle until she sparkles.

  • 📍 Stohrer + Rue Montorgueil
Paris’s oldest pâtisserie (since 1730). Order the baba au rhum or a puits d’amour.
⏱ 30–45 min · 💶 Free to browse, pastries ~€4–7 · 📸 Shoot the gold shopfront from across the street.
💡 Tip: Montorgueil is a pedestrian food street. Grab picnic cheese here for tonight.
  • 📍 Trocadéro Terrace
The classic front-on view. Metro Line 9 goes straight here.
    ⏱ 30 min · 💶 Free · 📸 Stand centre-terrace, shoot slightly low to hide crowds.
💡 Tip: Best before 9am or at blue hour. Midday is a wall of selfie sticks.
  • 📍 Avenue de Camoëns
A quiet Haussmann street with a stone balustrade framing the tower.
⏱ 20 min · 💶 Free · 📸 Sit on the steps; tower rises over the rooftops.
💡 Tip: It’s residential. Keep voices low and don’t block the stairs.
  • 📍 Avenue de New York
Riverside angle with the Seine and bridges in frame.
    ⏱ 20 min · 💶 Free · 📸 Use a zoom lens to compress tower + bridge.
💡 Tip: Golden hour light hits the tower from this side beautifully.
  • 📍 Champ de Mars + Eiffel Tower Carousel
Cross Pont d’Iéna. Lie on the lawn, spot the vintage carousel near the tower.
    ⏱ 60–90 min · 💶 Free (carousel ride ~€3–4) · 📸 Carousel lights + tower = storybook shot.
💡 Tip: Picnic here. A €12 supermarket spread beats a €60 tourist dinner.
  • 📍 Optional: Professional Eiffel Tower Photoshoot
Typically €150–350 for 30–60 min with 20–50 edited photos.
📸 Book sunrise. Empty streets, soft light, zero photobombers.
💡 Tip: Book on GetYourGuide and use code WALKINGTALKINGCA5.
  • ✨ Finale: The Eiffel Tower Sparkle
After dark, the tower glitters for five minutes at the top of every hour.
Watch from Trocadéro or the Champ de Mars lawn. It’s free — and it never gets old.
🎟 Going up? Official 2026 adult prices: stairs to 2nd floor €14.80 · lift to 2nd €23.50 · stairs + lift to summit €28 · lift to summit €36.70. Buy only at toureiffel.paris or trusted partners.
Day 2 — Iconic Landmarks + Montmartre Sunset + Tap to read full day

The big-ticket day. Start early, end on the steps of Sacré-Cœur. ⚠️ Don’t do this on a Tuesday — the Louvre is closed.

  • 📍 The Louvre + Cour Napoléon
Pick the highlights. Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, Napoleon III apartments.
    ⏱ 2.5–3 hrs · 💶 €32 non-EEA / €22 EEA · 📸 Shoot the pyramid from the arcade corners.
💡 Tip: Book a 9am slot on ticket.louvre.fr. Enter via Carrousel du Louvre, not the pyramid.
  • 📍 Notre-Dame + Sainte-Chapelle
Notre-Dame reopened after the fire — entry is free. Sainte-Chapelle’s stained glass is unreal.
    ⏱ 2 hrs total · 💶 Notre-Dame free · Sainte-Chapelle €22 non-EU (€30 with Conciergerie) · 📸 Go on a sunny day for glass colour.
💡 Tip: Sainte-Chapelle sits inside the courthouse. Security can take 30–60 min even with a slot.
  • 📍 Arc de Triomphe
Metro Line 1 from Châtelet. Climb 284 steps for the star-shaped avenue view.
    ⏱ 1 hr · 💶 €16 Oct–Mar & Wednesdays / €22 Apr–Sep · 📸 Face down the Champs-Élysées from the roof.
💡 Tip: Use the underpass. Never try to cross the roundabout.
  • 📍 Lunch on the Champs-Élysées
Honestly? Eat one street off the avenue. Same vibe, half the price.
    ⏱ 1 hr · 💶 €15–25 lunch formule · 📸 Ladurée’s green façade for the macaron shot.
  • 📍 Le Consulat, Montmartre
Metro Line 2 to Anvers or Blanche. The most photographed café corner in Paris.
    ⏱ 45 min · 💶 Coffee ~€4–6 · 📸 Shoot from Rue Norvins looking downhill.
  • 🌅 Finale: Sacré-Cœur + Montmartre Steps Sunset
Basilica entry is free. Find a step, face west and wait for gold.
💡 Ignore the “friendship bracelet” guys. Hands in pockets, keep walking.
Day 3 — Local Paris & Emily in Paris Filming Locations + Tap to read full day

My favourite day. Free rooftops, pastel streets and scenes straight off Netflix.

  • 📍 Galeries Lafayette — Dome + Free Rooftop
Stand under the stained-glass dome, then ride up to the 8th-floor terrace.
Eiffel Tower, Palais Garnier and Sacré-Cœur — one frame, zero euros.
⏱ 1 hr · 💶 Free · 📸 Glasswalk over the dome, then the terrace rail.
💡 Tip: Arrive at opening (10am Mon–Sat). The rooftop can shut in bad weather.
  • 📍 Palais Garnier — Grand Staircase
Two minutes’ walk. Gilded, marble, Phantom-of-the-Opera energy.
    ⏱ 1 hr · 💶 Paid, from ~€15 self-guided · 📸 Shoot the staircase from the first balcony.
💡 Tip: Rehearsals can close the auditorium. Check the day’s notice before paying. (Price may change — confirm on operadeparis.fr.)
  • 📍 Canal Saint-Martin
Iron footbridges, leafy locks — the Season 1 double-date location.
⏱ 45 min · 💶 Free · 📸 Shoot from the green footbridge at Rue de la Grange-aux-Belles.
💡 Tip: Grab coffee at a canal-side café and people-watch like a local.
  • 📍 Rue Crémieux
Candy-coloured houses near Gare de Lyon.
    ⏱ 15 min · 💶 Free · 📸 One quick photo, then move.
⚠️ Real people live here. Be quick, be quiet, no group posing on doorsteps.
  • 📍 Place des Vosges
Paris’s oldest planned square. Mindy and Benoît’s first kiss (Season 2).
    ⏱ 30 min · 💶 Free · 📸 Shoot through the arcades for symmetry.
  • 📍 Village Saint-Paul
Hidden Marais courtyards full of antique shops. Most tourists walk straight past.
    ⏱ 30 min · 💶 Free · 📸 Look for the ivy-covered inner passages.
  • 📍 Île Saint-Louis — Café Le Flore en l’Île
Emily’s solo scene at the end of Episode 1. Order a hot chocolate and play the part.
    ⏱ 45 min · 💶 Drinks ~€5–9 · 📸 Terrace table with Notre-Dame behind.
💡 Tip: Berthillon ice cream is on the same island. Worth the queue.
  • 📍 La Samaritaine Rooftop
The Art Nouveau department store at Pont Neuf.
⏱ 30 min · 💶 Free to enter · 📸 The peacock staircase inside is the real star.
⚠️ Rooftop access is not guaranteed for the public. Worth trying — don’t plan around it.
  • 🌅 Finale: Square du Vert-Galant → Pont Neuf
Walk down to the tip of Île de la Cité. Sit by the water for sunset.
Bring a bottle and a baguette. The cheapest luxury in Paris.
Day 4 — Disneyland Paris + Tap to read full day

A full day. Go in with a plan or spend it in queues.

  • 🚆 Getting there: RER A from Châtelet–Les Halles or Gare de Lyon to Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy. ~40–45 min.
  • 💶 Train cost: just €2.55 each way on a standard Metro-Train-RER ticket.
  • 🎟 Tickets: 1-day/1-park from ~€62 to €135+ depending on date. Always dated — buy online.
  • 🏰 Which park? One day = Disneyland Park. The castle, parade and night show live here.
  • 🆕 2026 note: Walt Disney Studios is now Disney Adventure World, with World of Frozen.
  • ⚡ Premier Access: ~€9–18 per ride. Buy only for one or two headliners.
What to prioritise
  • ✔ Arrive 45 min before opening. Rope-drop Big Thunder Mountain.
  • ✔ Pirates of the Caribbean + Phantom Manor mid-morning.
  • ✔ Eat lunch at 11:15 or 14:30 — never at noon.
  • ✔ Claim a parade spot 30 min early.
🎆 Evening: Disney Tales of Magic + fireworks, about 20 minutes at park close. Stand on Main Street, slightly off-centre, for the full castle projection.
Day 5 — Versailles, Saint-Germain + Seine Cruise + Tap to read full day

Royal morning, slow afternoon, river goodbye. Flying out tonight? Skip the cruise.

  • 📍 Palace of Versailles
RER C to Versailles Château Rive Gauche (~40 min, €2.55). Hall of Mirrors, gardens, Trianon.
    ⏱ 4–5 hrs · 💶 Passport €25 Nov–Mar / €35 Apr–Oct (non-EEA) · 📸 Hall of Mirrors at the opening slot.
💡 Tip: Closed Mondays. Book the 9am timed slot and see the Trianons after lunch — they’re quieter.
  • 📍 Saint-Germain + Luxembourg Gardens
Back in Paris, wander the Left Bank. Browse Shakespeare & Company.
    ⏱ 2 hrs · 💶 Free · 📸 Green Luxembourg chairs by the pond.
  • 📍 Seine River Cruise
One-hour sightseeing cruise at golden hour. Skip the pricey dinner cruises.
⏱ 1 hr · 💶 ~€17–20 · 📸 Sit at the back, outside, left side for the tower.
💡 Tip: Time it to finish near 9pm — you’ll catch the sparkle from the water.

Public Transport in Paris (2026 Prices)

✈️ Getting There
  • Direct Dubai–Paris flights ~7 hrs.
  • CDG: RER B to Gare du Nord/Châtelet, ~35 min, €14 airport ticket.
  • Orly: Metro Line 14 to the centre, €14 airport ticket.
  • Official taxis charge fixed fares to central Paris.
🚇 Tickets & Passes
  • Navigo Easy card: €2 (or use your phone).
  • Metro-Train-RER ticket: €2.55, all zones, 120 min.
  • Bus-Tram ticket: €2.05 (separate from metro).
  • Navigo day pass: ~€12.30.
  • Paris Visite: €78 for 5 days.
  • Navigo weekly: €32.40, Mon–Sun only.
🏨 Local Transport + Quick Tips
  • Metro runs ~5:30am to ~1am (later on weekends).
  • Walk more. Most Day 2–3 stops are 10–20 min apart.
  • Keep your ticket till you exit — inspectors check.
  • Carry a passport copy, not the original.
💡 Insider Hack: Best value for 5 days
  • Trip runs Monday–Friday? Get the Navigo weekly (€32.40 + €5 card and a photo, or on your phone). Covers airports, Disney and Versailles.
  • Any other dates? Pay-as-you-go €2.55 tickets. Realistic 5-day total: €14 + ~14 rides + €14 ≈ €64 pp.
  • Skip Paris Visite (€78) unless you hate planning. It rarely pays back.
⚠️ What went wrong for me

I tried buying the Navigo pass in the app with my UAE credit card. It kept failing.

👉 Don’t waste your first hour on it. Buy the Navigo Easy card and load tickets at a station ticket machine or counter — cards work fine there.

✔ Bus hack: just tap and go

Paris buses have tap-and-pay readers. Tap your contactless card or phone when you board.

👉 No pass, no app, no stress. Perfect when you’re stuck without a loaded ticket.

⚠️ Safety: Line 1, Line 4 and RER B are pickpocket hotspots. Phone in front pocket, bag zipped and in front. Stand away from doors — thieves grab and jump off as they close.

Top 10 Best Free Things to Do in Paris

  1. Galeries Lafayette rooftop. A 360° skyline with the Eiffel Tower in frame. Go at opening or sunset; it may close in rain.
  2. Notre-Dame Cathedral. Freshly restored and free to enter. Reserve a free time slot online to skip the walk-up line.
  3. The Eiffel Tower sparkle. Five minutes of glitter every hour after dark. Watch from Trocadéro or the Champ de Mars.
  4. Sacré-Cœur + Montmartre. The basilica is free and the steps give you sunset over the city. Watch for bracelet scammers.
  5. Louvre on the first Friday evening. Free entry 6–9pm on the first Friday of the month (not July or August). Book the free slot early.
  6. City-run museums. Permanent collections at Musée Carnavalet and Petit Palais are free. Petit Palais’ garden café is a hidden gem.
  7. Walk the Seine banks. The pedestrian quays between the Louvre and Notre-Dame are Paris at its best. Green bouquiniste book stalls line the way.
  8. Luxembourg Gardens. Grab a green chair by the pond and do nothing. Very Parisian, very free.
  9. Père Lachaise Cemetery. Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, Édith Piaf. Download a map first — it’s huge.
  10. Palais-Royal gardens + Buren columns. Striped columns, arcades and quiet lawns next to the Louvre. Perfect photo stop.
✔ Bonus: many national monuments are free on the first Sunday of the month from November to March.

Hidden Gems Most Tourists Miss

Common Mistakes ⚠️

  • ⚠️ Using 2024 prices. Non-EEA rates jumped in 2026. Budget for them.
  • ⚠️ Planning the Louvre on Tuesday or Versailles on Monday. Both are closed.
  • ⚠️ Relying on the app to buy your Navigo pass. Foreign cards can fail. Buy at the station machine — and remember metro gates don’t take bank cards (buses do).
  • ⚠️ Buying tickets from street sellers. Fakes are common near the Eiffel Tower.
  • ⚠️ Staying outside the périphérique to save money. You pay it back in time and fares.
  • ⚠️ Packing five icons into one day. Paris rewards slow walking, not box-ticking.

Quick Practical Tips

🛡 Safety
Safe overall. Watch for petition clipboards, ring scams and pickpockets at big sights.
💶 Tipping
Service is included. Round up or leave €1–2. 5–10% only for great service.
🎒 Packing Tip
Broken-in walking shoes. You’ll do 15,000–25,000 steps a day. Plus a compact umbrella.
🛂 From the UAE
Check your Schengen visa requirement by passport. Apply 6–8 weeks ahead in peak season.

Paris Travel FAQs

Is 5 days enough for Paris?

Yes. Five days covers every icon, one Disneyland day and one Versailles day, plus a slow local day. Add two more only if you want Orsay or a Champagne/Loire day trip.

What’s the cheapest way from CDG into Paris, and which metro pass should I buy?

RER B to Gare du Nord or Châtelet: €14 per person, ~35 min. Official taxis use fixed fares — fine for 3–4 people with bags. For passes: if your stay runs Monday to Sunday, the €32.40 Navigo weekly covers the airport too. Otherwise load €2.55 tickets on a Navigo Easy card at the station machine — my UAE credit card failed in the app. Skip Paris Visite.

Where should I stay: hotel or Airbnb?

For a 5-night couple’s trip, I’d pick a hotel — Paris studios are tiny, lifts are rare and Airbnb cleaning fees add up. Airbnb wins for families or stays of a week-plus. Only book listings showing a legal Paris registration number; the city strictly regulates short-term rentals.

Eiffel Tower: summit or 2nd floor? Stairs or lift?

The 2nd floor has the better view — landmarks are close and recognisable. Go summit only if it’s on your bucket list. Best value: stairs to the 2nd floor + lift to the summit for €28 (vs €36.70 full lift). Stairs-only to the 2nd is €14.80. Stair tickets now need advance booking.

Is Notre-Dame open, and is it free?

Yes, it reopened after restoration and cathedral entry is free. Book a free timed slot online to skip the walk-up queue. Tower access is a separate paid ticket, sold online only.

Is Versailles worth a day, and how do I get there?

Yes — give it a full morning plus early afternoon. Take RER C to Versailles Château Rive Gauche (~40 min, €2.55). The Passport ticket is €35 April–October and €25 November–March for non-EEA visitors. It’s closed Mondays.

Is Paris safe? What scams should I watch for?

Paris is safe for tourists; petty theft is the real risk. Watch for: friendship-bracelet sellers at Sacré-Cœur, petition clipboards, the “found a gold ring” trick, shell games on bridges and fake ticket sellers. Guard your phone on Metro Line 1, Line 4 and RER B.

Is the Paris Museum Pass worth it?

For this itinerary, it’s roughly break-even. The 4-day pass (around €105) covers Louvre €32 + Sainte-Chapelle €22 + Arc €16 + Versailles €35 = €105. It pays off only if you add Orsay, Orangerie or Rodin. You still need free timed slots for the Louvre, Sainte-Chapelle and Versailles. It never includes the Eiffel Tower.

How much is the Louvre now?

Since 14 January 2026: €32 for non-EEA visitors (UAE residents included), €22 for EEA. Free for under-18s, and for everyone on the first Friday of the month 6–9pm (except July and August). Closed Tuesdays. Book on ticket.louvre.fr.

⚠️ Prices checked October 2026. Paris attractions use seasonal and dynamic pricing — confirm on official sites before you book.
