This was the pivot day of the trip — New York behind us, Las Vegas ahead. We kept the airport transfer cheap with a subway + LIRR combo ($9 per person), flew JetBlue with one extra bag, and picked up a rented Mustang for the Vegas leg. By evening we were checked into the Rio and walking through the Luxor’s replica of King Tut’s tomb.

The Las Vegas Strip is the world’s best free walkable attraction. The resorts themselves are the show — the Luxor’s pyramid, the Bellagio fountains, the Venetian canals all cost nothing to see. Pair the pass attractions with free resort-hopping and your entertainment budget barely moves.
Day 1 food stayed lean — a Subway breakfast, an Indian dinner at Rutba, and a grocery run to stock the room with water. Total: $67 for 2 people including supplies.
Resort mini-bar water can run $6–8 a bottle. A $14 grocery run stocks the whole room — water, snacks, breakfast bits. In a desert city where you’re walking miles of casino floor, having your own water is both a health and a budget move.
